There is a hotel for every type of traveler in and around Zion National Park. From value to upscale. From inside the park to an hour outside.
Value is harder to find in peak season (summer and spring break to a lesser extent). But if you know where to look and when to book, you can find great deals.
Zion is not a show up and hope for the best kind of destination. You need to plan ahead.
In this guide, I will show you exactly where to stay based on what matters most to you. Location? Luxury? Saving money? Families? I have you covered.

Why Where You Stay Matters
Most people think all the hotels near Zion are the same. They are not.
Where you stay will change your entire trip.
Stay inside the park, and you can wake up at sunrise without crowds. You can drive your own car on certain roads when everyone else has to take a shuttle.

Stay in Springdale, and you can walk to restaurants and shops. You are very close and have access to amenities.
Stay further out, and you save money. But you add 30 to 60 minutes of driving each day.
Let me break it down.
The Geography of Zion Hotels
Understanding the map is critical.
- Inside the Park (Zion Lodge). There is only one hotel actually inside Zion National Park. It is called Zion Lodge. It sits in the middle of Zion Canyon.
- Springdale (Right Outside). This is the town at the park entrance. Most hotels are here. You can walk to the Visitor Center from some of them.
- La Verkin and Hurricane (30-45 Minutes Away). These towns are west of Springdale. Cheaper hotels. Longer drive.
- Orderville (East Side, 45-60 Minutes). On the other side of the park. Beautiful drive through the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel. Much fewer tourists.
- Virgin (15-20 Minutes West). Small town between Springdale and La Verkin. This is where the glamping options are.
Prices: What to Expect
Hotel prices in Zion are not cheap. And they have gotten as variable as airline prices.
In general, booking earlier is better. But unlike airlines, most hotel stays are refundable or have a modest upcharge for refundable rates on platforms like Hotels.com or Booking.com.
Here is the trick. Book far in advance. Then put a price tracker on it.
Sites like Hotels.com now provide price tracking info like Google Flights. They will tell you if the current price is low, typical, or high. You can evaluate the price and track it. If prices drop, cancel and rebook.
Peak Season Prices (June-August, Spring Break):
Prices are extremely variable and may vary. These prices assume you have booked 3-6 months in advance, although similar prices could be available closer in.
Prices tend to increase the closer you get to your dates. If you are planning ahead, look for seasonal sales on sites like Hotels.com, including Black Friday.
- Zion Lodge: $250-$400+ per night
- Springdale hotels: $200-$450+ per night
- Hotels 30-60 minutes out: $120-$250+ per night
Off-Season Prices (November-February): Prices drop significantly, possibly 30-50% less.
Best Nature and Beat the Crowds Experience: Zion Lodge
This is the only hotel actually inside Zion National Park.
It sits right in Zion Canyon. You step out of your room, and you are surrounded by towering red cliffs. That said, Springdale is so close to Zion that you can get spectacular views there as well.
What Makes It Special
You can drive your own car to the lodge even when private vehicles are not allowed in the canyon. In summer, everyone else has to take the shuttle. You do not.
You get early morning access and late evening access. When day visitors leave at sunset, you have the park to yourself. You can walk to the Emerald Pools trailhead in 10 minutes.
The historic 1920s cabins have gas fireplaces and porches. The lodge rooms have balconies with canyon views.

The Trade-Offs
It is not fancy. The rooms are rustic. The restaurant (Red Rock Grill) is the only dining option, and it gets crowded.
Reviews mention some maintenance issues. Mattresses can be lumpy. WiFi is spotty.
But most people do not care. They are here for the location, not the Four Seasons experience.
From the Reviews
One reviewer said: “You definitely pay for the convenience of staying inside the park, but it was worth it. The setting was absolutely beautiful. There were mountains all around.”
Another said, “Loved staying in this historic lodge in the heart of Zion National Park. We stayed in one of the original cabins. It had plenty of space, a nice little porch, and a really comfy bed.”
Who It Is For
Serious hikers who want to start their day at 6 AM. Families who want easy access without shuttle logistics. Anyone who wants the magic of waking up inside a national park.
Booking Tips
For summer and peak season, book 13 months in advance when reservations open. Cabins go first. Shoulder and off season is much easier to book. If you miss the initial booking window, check back often for cancellations.
Best Upscale Convenience: Cliffrose Springdale
The Cliffrose Springdale. sits on the edge of the Virgin River. You can walk to the park entrance. You can walk to Springdale restaurants and shops. The location is perfect.
What Makes It Special
The grounds are gorgeous. Five acres of gardens along the river. Two heated outdoor pools and two hot tubs open year-round. Fire pits. A sandy beach area on the river.
The restaurant (Anthera) serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with views. The spa (Five Petals Spa) offers massages and treatments.
Rooms have private balconies or patios. Some suites have full kitchens and separate living rooms.
From the Reviews
One guest said, “We absolutely loved our stay at the Cliffrose in Springdale. The location is unbeatable, just steps from the Zion National Park entrance. The grounds were beautiful with the river and fire pits.”
Another said: “Nice heated pool and hot tub, landscaped grounds, fire pit, and sandy beach and chairs on Virgin River. Beautiful views from the room.”
The Trade-Offs
It is one of the more expensive options in Springdale. Some reviews say the decor feels a bit dated despite recent updates.
There is a parking fee (which frustrates some guests). And in peak season, it can feel crowded.
Who It Is For
Travelers who want upscale comfort and the convenience of being able to walk to the park. Couples who want a romantic setting. Families who want pool time and easy park access.
Best Upscale for Families: Desert Pearl Inn
Desert Pearl Inn is a boutique inn on the banks of the Virgin River. It has been family-owned and operated since 1998. The owners love Zion. You can tell. Every detail is intentional.
What Makes It Special
All rooms have fully stocked kitchenettes. Refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher, and dishes. You can make breakfast before heading to the park. You can pack lunches.
The double queen rooms sleep 6 people. Two queen beds plus a queen-size sofa bed. Perfect for larger families.
All rooms have private balconies or patios. River view rooms face the Virgin River. Pool view rooms overlook the large saltwater pool.
The pool is open from April to October. The hot tub is open year-round.
From the Reviews
One reviewer called it their favorite hotel of all time: “I hesitate to recommend this hotel because I am afraid that it will become too popular, but suffice it to say that of all of the hotels that I have stayed in, this remains our absolute favorite. The rooms are always immaculate, the setting is gorgeous, and having a small kitchenette is a bonus.”
Another said, “We had an upstairs river suite. The room layout and outfitting were stellar. The dark sky nights and 24/7 soothing river soundtrack, plus daytime mountain scene, are memories I will have forever.”
The Trade-Offs
It is expensive in peak season. Some reviews say the rooms feel a bit dated. But most people do not care because the location and amenities outweigh minor issues.
Who It Is For
Families who want space and kitchen facilities. Couples who want a peaceful riverside retreat. Anyone who values a boutique experience over a chain hotel.
Best Value for Families: Bumbleberry Inn
Bumbleberry Inn is a family-owned property that has been around since 1972. It is famous for bumbleberry pie (which you can buy in the gift shop). It is also a solid value in expensive Springdale.
What Makes It Special
The rooms are spacious. Much bigger than typical motel rooms.
Every room has a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, safe, and satellite TV.
The best part? Free breakfast vouchers every morning. Not a sad continental breakfast. Actual vouchers for Porter’s Smokehouse Restaurant on the property. You can order anything off the menu. Hot breakfast. Big portions.
There is a seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub. The Springdale shuttle stops right in front. You do not need your car.
They also have farm animals at the back of the property. Kids love walking back there to see the sheep and ducks.
From the Reviews
One family who returns every year said, “We stay at Bumbleberry Inn every time we visit Zion National Park. It is a family tradition. The rooms are spacious and clean. As a surprise, they gave us breakfast vouchers every morning to eat at their restaurant. We could order anything off the menu.”
Another said: “The breakfast that was included was extremely helpful and very good. The location was completely ideal. Very close to the entrance at Zion, but most importantly right in the middle of restaurants.”
The Trade-Offs
It isn’t the fanciest option in Springdale, but it gets people love it. And reasonably priced, which is hard to come by in Springdale.
Who It Is For
Families who want space and a free breakfast. Cost-conscious travelers who still want a central Springdale location. Anyone who appreciates old-school family-run hospitality.

Best Reliable Chain Hotel: Hyatt Place Springdale
This property just converted from Holiday Inn Express to Hyatt Place in February 2025.
What Makes It Special
It is a Hyatt. If you like chain hotels with predictable standards, this is your spot.
Beautiful location with mountain views. Two pools (one is being renovated as of early 2026). Hot tubs. Fire pit area. Large outdoor deck.
Free breakfast. The Springdale shuttle stops right in front. Pet-friendly.
From the Reviews
One guest said: “The hotel was recently, beautifully, remodeled. The outside pool, hot tub, and fire pit enhance the amazing views of the mountains. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast offered something for everyone.”
Another said: “Great location, very near to the entrance of the Zion National Park. You can see part of the Zion mountain just behind the hotel, and the views are beautiful, especially during sunset time.”
The Trade-Offs
There is also a parking fee ($20 per night), which annoys some guests in a small town like Springdale. If you want unique, this probably isn’t it.
Who It Is For
Travelers who want a reliable chain hotel experience. Hyatt loyalists who want to use points. Pet owners (they are very pet-friendly).
Best Value in Springdale: Driftwood Lodge
Driftwood Lodge is known as one of the most affordable options in Springdale. It’s simple, clean, and highly rated. It has a pool and a hot tub. It has a great location.
Who It Is For
Cost-conscious travelers who want to be in Springdale without breaking the bank.
Best Glamping: Under Canvas Zion
Under Canvas is safari-style glamping on 196 acres of remote desert land. It is about 20 miles from Zion National Park entrance in the town of Virgin.
What Makes It Special
You stay in upscale tents. Not camping tents. Think king-size beds with West Elm furnishings. Private ensuite bathrooms with hot showers. Wood-burning stoves. Private decks with views of red rock cliffs.
The Stargazer Tent has a viewing window above the bed. You fall asleep looking at the stars.
No electricity in the tents. They provide lanterns. It is off-grid luxury.
There is a restaurant on-site with breakfast and dinner. A bar with local beers and wine. Evening live music by the fire pit. Free s’mores.
The property is Dark Sky certified. The stars at night are incredible.

From the Reviews
One said: “The staff at Under Canvas are always super helpful in their recommendations for local activities and dining. We loved the food at the restaurant at this location. The Star Gazer tent was spectacular.”
The Trade-Offs
It is expensive. Tents run $250-$600+ per night depending on season and tent type.
It is glamping, not a hotel. No AC. No electricity. It can get hot in summer. It can get windy and loud when the canvas flaps.
The location is remote. About a 30-minute drive to Zion.
Who It Is For
People who love nature but do not want to sleep on the ground. Couples seeking a romantic desert escape. Families who want a unique experience. Stargazing enthusiasts.
Affordable Glamping: Zion Wildflower Resort
This is a less expensive glamping option than Under Canvas. Wildflower still provides the immersive outdoor experience with the creature comforts of real beds and furniture.
The Bungalows and Grand Mesa Tents have private, en-suite bathrooms. The Covered Wagons and standard Canvas Tents use private, lockable, and shared luxury bathhouses located nearby.
Who It Is For
Travelers who want the glamping experience without the Under Canvas price tag.

Best Upscale Value: Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort
This resort is in Orderville on the east side of Zion National Park.
It is about 45 minutes to an hour drive from Springdale. But the drive through the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel is beautiful.
What Makes It Special
Amazing amenities for a much lower price than Springdale hotels.
They have cabins and glamping tents. Swimming pools. Horseback riding. Ziplines. ATV tours. Cowboy cookouts. Guided hikes.
It is like a dude ranch meets adventure resort.
You are on the quieter east side of the park. Far fewer tourists. Access to less crowded trails.
The Trade-Offs
The drive. If you want to hike the famous trails on the west side (Angels Landing, The Narrows), you have a 45-minute to 1-hour drive each day.
But if you are doing a multi-park trip (Zion, Bryce Canyon, and maybe even Grand Staircase-Escalante), the east side location works great.
Who It Is For
Families who want activities and amenities on-site. Adventurous travelers who do not mind the drive. Budget-conscious travelers who want upscale amenities without upscale Springdale prices.
Booking Tips
Book cabins early. Check if you can bundle lodging with activity packages for better value.
Best Value with a Drive: La Quinta Inn & Suites, La Verkin
La Verkin is about 30 minutes west of Zion National Park.
This is a reliable chain hotel with good reviews. Free breakfast. Pool. Hot tub.
Who It Is For
Budget travelers. Families who do not mind a 30-minute drive and want to pay significantly less per night.
Best Add-On: OutpostX
This is not a place to use as your Zion base. But if you love Star Wars, this is a must-do.
OutpostX is a Star Wars-themed glamping resort about 1.5 hours from Zion.
You can drive a landspeeder. Stay in pods that look like they are from Tatooine. It is on your way to or from Las Vegas. And it is a good way to explore the Kolob Canyon region of Zion on the West side on your drive to Springdale.
Who It Is For
Star Wars fans. Families with kids who would lose their minds over this. Anyone doing a multi-destination trip.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Here are the mistakes I see people make when booking hotels for Zion.
1. Waiting Too Long to Book. Springdale hotels fill up 6-12 months in advance for peak season. If you wait until April to book a July trip, you will pay double.
2. Not Checking Refund Policies. Most Springdale hotels offer free cancellation up to a few days before arrival. Book early. Track prices. Rebook if prices drop.
3. Ignoring the Shuttle System. If you stay in Springdale, you will use the free town shuttle to get to the park and the free park shuttle to get around inside. Make sure your hotel is on the shuttle route.
4. Booking Based on Price Alone. The cheapest hotel might be 45 minutes away. That adds 90 minutes of driving per day. Is it worth saving $50?
5. Not Reading Recent Reviews. Hotels change. A property that was great 3 years ago might be under renovation now. Read reviews from the last 6 months.
6. Forgetting About Parking Fees. Some Springdale hotels charge $15-$20 per night for parking. Factor that into your budget.
FAQ: Your Questions Answered
How far in advance do I need to book?
For Zion Lodge and the best Springdale hotels in peak season, 4-6 months to get the best rates. There will be options on short notice, but they will likely be more expensive. Zion Lodge doesn’t sell out as quickly as some other popular parks, because Springdale is so convenient and has so many great hotel options.
Can I just show up without a reservation?
Technically yes. But you will pay premium prices, and your choices will likely be limited. I would not recommend this in summer.
Is it worth staying inside the park?
If you can get a reservation and you don’t mind limited dining options, yes. The early morning and evening access is magical.
What about Airbnb?
There are Airbnbs in Springdale and the surrounding areas. They can be great for larger groups. Just make sure they are actually close to the park.
Should I stay on the east side or west side of Zion?
The west side (Springdale) is where most people stay. It is closest to the main attractions. The east side (Orderville) is quieter, less expensive, and works well if you are combining Zion with Bryce Canyon. Or for one night between Zion and Bryce can save some driving time and money if you don’t mind hopping hotels.
Why I Like Hotels.com
There are a few reasons I always recommend Hotels.com:
- Easy to compare rates and amenities for independent and chain hotels in one place
- Rates are usually the same or even lower than booking direct, and you get bigger discounts the more you book with hotels.com
- 2% back for future hotel stays that can also be used on Expedia or VRBO
- Often, better, more flexible refund policies than booking directly
- Rate tracking for many properties; similar to Google flights, it tells you if the price is high, average, or low, and has rate tracking alerts if prices go down (so you can book a refundable room, and then get alerted if you should cancel and rebook at lower rates)
Do I book with some of the big hotel chains like Hilton or Hyatt directly? Yes, if I want their loyalty points. But if it is an independent or a smaller chain that I do not stay at enough to make their point program worthwhile, I will take the 2% back on hotels.com.
